    As one of the largest gastrointestinal surgery departments in shandong province, the department has its own independent outpatient clinic, with more than 18,000 outpatients per year. The ward has two wards and 84 open beds. There were more than 3000 patients discharged from hospital and more than 2000 surgeries. More than 70% of them were laparoscopic surgeries.

    Surgical treatment has been successfully transferred from traditional laparotomy to laparoscopic surgery. Appendicectomy, colorectal cancer surgery, total colon resection, gastric cancer, external abdominal hernia and incisional hernia repair surgery, as well as acute abdominal surgery, have been carried out skillfully. In addition, laparoscopy, digestive endoscopy and double-mirror surgery were successfully performed in the treatment of malignant and benign tumors of stomach and colorectum. Besides, it also pays attention to the promotion of clinical nutrition support and laparoscopic surgery. It has held three sessions of on-site demonstration of laparoscopic surgery and undertaken the provincial continuing medical education project -- laparoscopic gastrointestinal tumor surgery class.

    The department pays attention to clinical and basic research work, and has published nearly 200 papers in recent years, including more than 30 papers published in Chinese series journals, and 7 papers included in SCI.
