The Radiotherapy Department of Liaocheng People's Hospital was established in 1993. It is the earliest department for the treatment of tumors by using linear accelerators in Liaocheng and surrounding areas.

    The department now has 1 chief physician (master's supervisor), 5 associate chief physicians, 1 senior engineer, and 21 doctoral and postgraduate students. Currently, there are two wards with 87 beds open.

    The department is equipped with one high-energy linear accelerator made in the United States, one made in Britain and one made in China. It also has international advanced equipment such as gyro knife treatment machine, rearmounted treatment machine, simulation positioning machine imported from the Netherlands and 16-row spiral CT positioning machine imported from the United States.

    In addition to conventional radiotherapy, VMAT (volume arc intensity modulated radiotherapy), IMRT (intensity modulated radiotherapy), stereotactic conformal radiotherapy, gyroscope therapy, brachytherapy, iodine 125 seed implantation therapy, radiofrequency ablation, hyperfractionated radiotherapy and radiotherapy for benign diseases were carried out. Standardized radiotherapy and comprehensive treatment for malignant tumors and benign lesions were carried out. Radical radiotherapy for esophageal cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, cervical cancer, rectal cancer, oral malignant tumors, brain tumors, nasal cavity and sinus cancer, malignant lymphoma, and preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative radiotherapy were performed.

    The Radiotherapy Department undertakes the teaching tasks of Taishan Medical College and Liaocheng Vocational and Technical College. It is the training point for Postgraduates of Taishan Medical College. At present, there are two postgraduates majoring in oncology in the department. Departments pay attention to the construction of talent echelon, and the proportion of senior, intermediate and junior professional titles is reasonable. We strive to make the best use of our talents, show our talents, and help the staff to go abroad for further study. In the past three years, five doctors have been sent to study in top hospitals in China. The department of radiotherapy passed the evaluation of the standardized training base for resident physicians of the national health and family planning commission in 2014, and a total of 16 resident physicians participated in the standardized training of the department of radiation oncology by 2017.

    In recent years, the department of radiotherapy has carried out clinical studies on three-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated radiotherapy, volumetric intensity-modulated radiotherapy, gyro scalpel therapy, synchronous radiation and chemotherapy for tumors, combined radiotherapy with hyperthermia and molecular targeted therapy. Currently,it has undertaken one scientific research project of the national health and family planning commission, and participated in one project of the northern oncology cooperation group. Four multi-center research projects were carried out. In recent three years, it has published more than 40 papers in core journals, 5 SCI papers included, edited and participated in the compilation of many monographs related to tumor, and won many provincial and municipal science and technology progress awards.
