Anesthesiology is a key specialty of Shandong Province in medicine and health, a key clinical specialty of Shandong Province, a comfortable medical research base designated by the State Health and Family Planning Commission, a professional base for standardized training of resident doctors in anesthesiology, a training base for postgraduate students of anaesthesiology of Xuzhou Medical University and a training base for doctoral students of Wuhan University.

    There are 67 on-the-job employees in anesthesia department, including 13 nurses, 3 chief physicians, 9 deputy chief physicians, 19 attending physicians, 2 deputy chief nurses, 7 doctoral postgraduates and 27 master postgraduates, 1 master (doctoral) tutor and 5 academic part-time professionals at or above the provincial level. Fifteen people went to the Central Hospital of Singapore, the Medical College of Kyoto University in Japan, Yonsei University in Korea, Mary Hospital of the University of Hong Kong and Medical Center of the University of Ireland-Nuremberg in Germany, St. Polton Medical College in Austria and Imperial University of Technology in Britain for further study.

    The Department of anesthesia is responsible for anesthesia and analgesia, painless gastrointestinal endoscopy, painless bronchoscopy, acute and chronic pain treatment and rescue of critical patients in all operations of the hospital. A total of 39 operating rooms are open. More than 47000 cases of surgical anesthesia are completed every year.     With the enlargement of hospital scale and the improvement of technical level, anesthesia has gradually been divided into a series of sub-disciplines, such as cardiothoracic vascular surgery anesthesia, neurosurgical anesthesia, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology anesthesia, obstetrics and Gynecology anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, elderly anesthesia, oral anesthesia, painless endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pain. It can complete the anesthesia of heart, liver and kidney transplantation independently. The anaesthesia recovery unit (PACU) was established on May 28, 2005 to ensure the safety of patients undergoing surgery. On June 8, 2011, an acute pain service organization (APS) was established under the supervision of anesthesiologists on the basis of the Pain Committee of the Ministry of Nursing. Ultrasound diagnostic system was introduced in 2012. Ultrasound-guided deep vein puncture, brachial plexus nerve, thoracic paravertebral nerve, lumbar plexus nerve, transverse abdominal muscle plane, iliac fascial space and other nerve block techniques, as well as intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography diagnostic techniques, have been routinely developed.

    The department of anesthesiology undertakes the teaching tasks of interns majoring in anesthesiology, such as weifang medical college, xuzhou medical university, binzhou medical college, etc., and the training of postgraduate anesthesiologists in xuzhou medical university and doctoral students in wuhan university.     The department of anesthesiology has undertaken a total of 34 scientific research projects, including 1 general project of national natural fund, 1 natural science foundation project of shandong province, 1 science and technology project of shandong province, and 3 medical and health planning projects of shandong province. It has won 1 first prize of jiangsu province's scientific and technological progress, 1 third prize of shandong province's scientific and technological progress, 1 first prize of huaihai science and technology, 3 medical science and technology awards of shandong province, and 9 scientific and technological progress awards of liaocheng city. It edited and participated in the compilation of 12 works. It has published 104 papers in core journals at home and abroad, including 17 SCI papers.
